A Wigan website client asks, what is responsive website design? They wondered if it could be some new way of a website designer instantly responding to the needs of a client each and every day. Hmm … a nice thought and it’s almost the case when it comes to WN6 Creative.
So when I was asked this question I answered by showing him what responsive website design was all about. I also explained a responsive website design is one that responds automatically to the size of screen, it will adapt to a landscape or portrait smartphone or tablet, or it will easily scale for a desktop or laptop. More importantly a responsive website design will adapt itself in terms of the navigation system too.
For small screens the navigation system could be a single drop down menu, or for larger screens a series of menus and sidebars.
I asked the client to shrink the size of the browser on his desktop machine whilst looking at one of the site WN6 Creative have designed. He was shocked as to how easily the website responded easily and adapted. I then asked him to take a look on his smart phone and change screen from portrait to landscape, once again the site responded instantly.
Responsive website design – adapts to all screen sizes.
My Wigan client then asked “Don’t most people use a desktop to look at the internet, I do? This is all very well and good but it’s not worth it really is it?”
I then logged on to his analytics account and showed him the actual statistics … almost 50% of his visits came from smartphones or tablets. Once again my Wigan Website client was flabbergasted, he then deduced that his non responsive website didn’t easily serve 50% of his visitors needs as well as it could.
Suffice to say from one simple question a Wigan website client quickly commissioned an updated framework for his website ensuring it was totally responsive and adaptive, the cost was nominal, he didn’t have to touch his content but the returns for client where potentially massive.
