First of all if you are wondering why you are here, this area of the website is dedicated to providing simple user guides on WordPress.  Some may be asking what is WordPress? WordPress is quite simply a superb piece of internet software that provides the engine to build a website on.  WordPress started as just a blogging system, but has evolved to be used as full content management system and so much more through the thousands of plugins, widgets, and themes, WordPress is limited only by your imagination.

Remember if you are new to websites, content, blogging or WordPress – you are not alone.  There are currently 49 million WordPress sites in the globe!  If you really feel the need to watch the numbers grow take a trip to the WordPress Stats page for more indepth statistics.

Now we have defined what WordPress is used for then lets begin – use your login details provided and login!

So you’ve logged in, and made it behind the scenes of your new website.  Don’t worry it’s easier than it looks.

The first screen you’ll see is the Dashboard

The Dashboard screen mainly provides a synopsis of the content on your WordPress website.

The first thing you will want to do is add some content.

In WordPress it is essential to understand that that there are two types of text content you can add to your site PAGES and POSTS.

The way your site has been set up for you will determine if you add content under PAGES, POSTS, or both.

The difference between PAGES and POSTS is simple.

A PAGE is a static piece of content, such as Home, About Us, Contact Us.  Other uses for pages would be if you wanted to list a synopsis of services or products you could use a page.  Pages do not fall into categories but can have sub pages, an example would be a main service then a sub page for each type of service.  Remember PAGES are for static content stuff that doesn’t change very much if at all.

POST are a little different.  Posts historically are used for content that has a chronological aspect to it – like a BLOG (a part of the Web site on which an individual or group of users record diary entries, latest news, opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis).  Posts can be assigned to categories, so you may have a category called Latest Industry News with 20 posts in that category building periodically.  However on some websites POSTS can also be used for Product Catalogues too.  WordPress POSTS are so adaptable that additional software can be added to enable you to add Ecommerce details as part of an online shopping  function.

So you can get started adding content to your website, simply choose either PAGES or POSTS

Remember the website has been set up so that it’s almost impossible to break – so don’t worry!
